NHSP03 — Pension Savings Statement

Pension savings statements show the theoretical growth in your pension benefits over each tax year. A statement is produced automatically if the growth is more than the standard annual allowance, or if you request one ‘on demand’ — for example if you have a reduced allowance.

Subject: Document request NHSP03

Dear NHS Pensions

My details are as below. I am requesting a “pension savings statement” in the tax year(s) stated. Please note that if I do not exceed the general annual allowance, please regard this as a request for an “on demand” statement.

Full Name: XXX XXXX
Date of Birth: DD/MM/YYYY
Address & postcode: XXX XXXX
SD Number (this is on ESR payslips and documents from NHS pensions): 1234XXXX

Please provide the following documents in the formats requested below:
NHSP03 (23/24; PDF)
NHSP03 (24/25; PDF)
NHSP03 (25/26; PDF)
[delete any which you dont want or need]

This request is made under regulation 14B of The Registered Pension Schemes (Provision of Information) Regulations 2006 (SI 2006/567). The date of this request is {{REQDATE}}. Under regulation 14B you must provide the statement(s) requested within three months of receiving this request, or by 6 October following the end of the relevant tax year if that is later — that is, by the statutory deadline of {{DEADLINE}}. I understand this deadline is extended only where you have not yet received the information you need from a third party (for example my employer’s pensionable earnings information), in which case the statement is due within three months of your receiving it. If you are relying on that exception, please confirm this by return and tell me exactly what information is outstanding, from whom it was requested and on what date, so that I can chase it directly.

Kind regards

Dr. XXX

Notes for use

You can request the current year or a previously issued statement. Statements are only routinely produced in the October after the close of the tax year for those that exceed the general annual allowance (£60,000 in 23/24 & 24/25, £40,000 prior to this). However you may wish to request an “on demand” statement if you are at risk of tapering or wish to calculate your “headroom”. Under regulation 14B of The Registered Pension Schemes (Provision of Information) Regulations 2006 (SI 2006/567), NHSBSA must provide a statement you request within three months of receiving the request, or by the 6 October following the end of the tax year if that is later — the deadline is only extended where they are still waiting for information from a third party such as your employer. The template states today’s date and the resulting deadline automatically, and asks NHSBSA to say exactly what is outstanding if they rely on that exception.
